The other day I had gone to a huge book exhibition. People were busy buying books left right and center. I am sure there is a sudden craze to reading across the globe.
But sadly most of them will not open even half the books they will buy. The books unpacked will lie in the corner gathering dust. . At the time of purchase there would have been so much enthusiasm, which will have vanished. And soon the existence of the books will be forgotten. Life would continue till the next book exhibition where this incident would be forgotten and more books will again be purchased. Surely this must have happened with you all sometime or the other. Please understand though that buying of books or reading is a good habit. But there is one another way through which huge transformations are possible.
Many 1000’s of years back, in ancient India, there were clear solutions to learning-“Guru-Shishiya Parampara”. The Sufis put this in one simple word, which is “Maujood”.
“Maujood” is a beautiful word used by the Sufis. It means Physically and Mentally being present. The highest learning happens in transference, in the presence of the Guru. All one needs to do is “Be there- fully present”. Can learning be more easier? The difference is listening to a musical performance on radio, or viewing on T.V to attending it “Live”. In a “Live” program there is so much energy that it takes listening to a higher level, just be being there.
The meaning of “Guru” is great. He/She is some one who can inspire, move and guide people to come out of darkness to light. Someone with immense wisdom to transfer his experience on a topic of his mastery and destroy ignorance.
I heard a good story- One-day a father and his rich family took his young son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night in the farm of a very poor family. When they got back from their trip the father asked his son,
"How was the trip?" Very good, Dad!" "Did you see how poor people can be?" the father asked. "Yeah!" "And what did you learn?"
The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden, they millions of stars. We have a huge spot light and they have the moon. We have air conditioners in each room while they have the whole atmosphere and sky to themselves. When the little boy was finishing, his father was speechless.
His son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are!"
His son had taught the father something so big in life that day. So anybody can actually be a “Guru”. Be open and receptive, the whole universe is teaching you something or the other.
So next time you find a “Guru”, make all effort only to be present. Soak yourself in the true knowledge; let it seep into every pore of your skin. Let it get into your system. Let it become a part of you. Only when it becomes one with you, you can live in the knowledge imparted. Then you get results, big transformations. So if you want to bloom in your life, find a live master and just sit by his/her side. The transmission of the lamp happens and your life is full of light.
